Dancing!

We have all had 'DANCE' on the mind at our house! From Dance Festival to Dance Team, we are all about DANCE!

Emily just spent the last week getting ready for her middle school dance team try-outs. It was dance, dance, dance all day, everyday! It culminated on friday at the actual 'try-outs'! A VERY LONG day it was, but filled with lots of fun and friends, and it ended with the happy news that: EMILY MADE THE DANCE TEAM!!! She was on the team last year, but everyone has to try-out every year. So the pressure was on! There were a total of 5 girls (counting Emily) from our ward who tried out. And they all made it! Last years team was big over 50 girls, but this years team is even larger! Over 60 kids! I say kids now, cause for the first time ever two boys tried out and made it on the team! It is way cool, and will add a whole other dynamic to their dances!
Saturday morning after a long day of try-outs, she headed to learn the dance for the Beehives for the dance festival! She had been asked by our stake to learn it and be one of the youth leader that help teach the other girls! She had fun learning a dance to the song 'carwash'! She is just our Dancer Girl! We love her!

So, I mentioned Dance Festival! Can I just say, that the dance festival was one of the HIGH LIGHTS of my youth! So, when I found out Emily was going to be able to participate in a dance festival I was SOOOOOO EXCITED!!!! Then even better, we (Blake and I) were asked to help teach the dances in our stake! There was NO hesitation in my mind! Great memories of my youth, dancing (I LOVE TO DANCE), time with my husband where he has to dance with me! Who could say no!!!! We were chosen to help teach the Laurel/Priest dances, the Waltz and the Disco!!! OH, YOU KNOW IT ! We learned the routine for the Waltz one Saturday in November in 5 hours! and then the Disco the first Saturday in December, same time length, but much more intense!!! I just love it when I have to be spun around on the floor, oh and don't forget, Blake jumping over me as I stand! You'll all just have to come to the Dance Festival so you can get what I am talking about! In all the Disco was hard, but so fun! The youth are going to have a BLAST!!!!! We start teaching the youth the dances in January and the festival is the end part of June! We will all have DANCE on the Brain!!!!

Since I mentioned my youth Dance Festival I thought I'd throw in some 'retro' pictures of both Blake and I at our Dance Festivals! Mine was spring of 1989 (future husband was a senior, I was a freshman!)
I am on the right of the picture (Sister Becky the left). This was our costume for the Cha-Cha!!! I should have saved the costume and used it as a mini mouse outfit!

This is the costume for our Virginia Reel dance! I am on the left this time.

And now to make you laugh even more here is one of Blake! He was in 2 dance festival! (lucky boy) But, only one picture where you can see him! He is the cute one toward the center with no one in front of him. This is from his first dance festival and he was about 14 years old! They did a Ukranian Dance!

So, now you know our fascination with dance! It is just the start! We will be thinking DANCE for the next 6 months! WAAAHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my gosh, my sister Sarah was in that SAME Ukranian Dance!! I did 3 dance festivals. When I was 12, 16 and as a Young Adult. I LOVED DANCE FESTIVAL!! I still have pictures of my self in my first two Dance Festival's in my scriptures. I don't know why I've never taken them out. I'm sad that my girls have never had the chance to be in a dance festival and they don't do them here in Ohio either. :o(
