A summer of 'Firsts' and Adventures

This has been a very adventurous summer, full of first time's for me!

June/July/Aug: I rode my bike (kid trailer and all the kids following) to the school library, Wendy's up the road for frosties!, to the new park up the road and numerous rides around the neighborhood. Now, I've ridden around the neighborhood before, but I have always been scared to death of riding around cars! I even hate driving by them, I always think I'm going to run them over or vise versa. Now we are riding on sidewalks when possible, but I am closer to cars than I've ever been on a bike! The kids are having fun too! Grace loves to be in the trailer and climbs in there just to hang out!
July: I ran in my first, not surrounded by friends or members of my stake, 5k. (see earlier post) And I ran my best time yet.
July: At our Perkins Family Reunion ( see earlier post) I went rock climbing (and not at a rock wall in a gym). Ok, so I didn't get up very far, but I got up, and I had to find my own holds, and it was a heck of a long way down!
July: I ran my first 10k! Our stake does a annual pioneer day 5k and 10k run. I've done it 2 times before so I thought I'd try further. I did it! My time was 55:05! I was very tired, and my hips hurt, but I did it!
July: I went rafting down the Deshutes (sp?)! Now, I was suppose to do it last year, but Grace was so little that Emily took my spot. So, this year when we decided to go, Emily HAD to come! We all had a great time! We went with my sister Becky, brother Karl, his kids Melissa, Nicole, and Kevin, and Nicole's Boyfriend Adam. We had a GREAT GREAT GREAT time! Now I've been down the Boise river and the Washougal river, but neither have that big of rapids. The Deshutes has lots! Karl is a pro and was a great river guide! It was Awesome!
Another first that went along with the rafting trip was a first time for stitches from an injury! While rafting we took a stop off at some natural water slides. Not so adventurous me trying to be adventurous went down those water slides, and ended up hitting my head pretty good. They bandaged me up there and I wore a Gangster headband the rest of the trip. When we got home, Blake (or shall I call him Dr. Perkins) stitched me up with 2 lovely stitches!
That one day of adventure should be enough to last me the rest of the summer! But the fun doesn't stop there!
August: (just on Saturday) I ran in my first Duathlon!!!!! My friend, Tamara, loves to bike, like to run, but would rather bike. Well, she asked me if I wanted to be a team for the Luna All Womens Triathlon/Duathlon, at Blue Lake. We'd do the Duathlon, I'd run a 5k, she'd bike 12mile(?), then i'd run another 5k! I was so excited!!!! It was great! It was hard stopping and then waiting to go again ( but atleast i got a potty break!)
Tamara and I - tag and run!

The fun thing about this Duathlon was that there was a kids Triathlon after ours finished. So the whole family came and cheered us on ! And then we cheered the kids on as they compeated! Emily, Ryan and Spencer did so good! They call it a 'Splash, Pedal, Dash". So as it sounds they ran thru the water for space up to their knees then got on there bikes and rode the course and then ran in to the finish line (just like mom)! They even had timing chips! It was a great opportunity! Thanks Tamara for a wonderful day! We all got medals for participating, and Tamara and I even won another medal for our team! my first 5k I came in 31st of 49 at 9:15. my second 5k I came in 29th of 49 at 9:41. I felt really good about my times and my actual running! I was so wasted the rest of the day! But It was a great feeling!

August: (Just last night) You'd think growing up in Bellevue with all that surrounding water that I would have had lots of experience on a boat. Nope, not me! I've been out a few times even did the tube behind the boat once, but that was it. Well, yesterday we went with some friends on there boat and I, non-adventurous Sarah, tried water skiing! We are choosing to say I did get up. Not for very long, but I was up! I don't think I have ever had so much water in me! I biffed it quite a few time, but kept on trying! It was fun, crazy fun! Blake Wake boarded (i think that's what it is called) and did great! Ryan tried waterskiing, but it is very hard to get up. He gave it his all! We were very proud of him! Over all we had a great time! Thanks Young's for a Memorible evening!!!

Well, it is just the 5th of August, just think of all the firsts and adventurous things I could do with the rest of this month! Am I getting braver the older I get? Maybe I'm just ready to have fun!
I will add pictures later, Caleb needs to go on a bike ride!!!

I am so proud of you for all of your firsts! Now we have something in common--we've both been stitched up by our husbands. I had a run in with an escalator that Nathan helped me out with. You have had a great summer Way to go!!!
