Life and Learning

Last week I received a call from the kids elementary school. Emily had been one of three 5th graders chosen to share their exit project at the school board meeting. So, naturally, me being me, I was stressing!!! Blake and I talked about it and decided it would be a good opportunity for Emily. We discussed it with Emily and she seemed excited. Well, yesterday was the day of the meeting. So at school they pulled the three kids out of class to prep them for the meeting that evening. Doing so freaked Em out! By the time she got home from track she was adamant she was not going. We talked about how the other kids and Mr. Mertz (who was the teacher presenting from Harmony) were counting on her. And that when we say we will do something, even if we are scared or nervous, we still do it. Well, I had to dress her and drag her to the car, but we made it to the meeting. As we were walking up, Sister Skelton (from our old ward who happens to be the School Board President) was walking up. She could tell Emily was upset. So she took us aside and sat and talked with Emily. I love that woman!!! She said the things that Emily needed to hear, that I needed to hear! The whole conversation just brought to mind the scripture that says 'ask Heavenly Father and weak things will be made strong.' Sister Skelton was truly an answer to my prayers that afternoon. Now Emily still was nervous, but she got up there at the podium, spoke into the microphone, and said the things she needed to say, and even answered questions posed by the school board! I am so proud of my Emily! What she did was really hard for her, but she did it, and did it well. Life lessons are soooo important!
It's hard to believe my little Emily is graduating from 5th grade! It was funny, when the three kids were presenting at the board meeting they stood in a row. Em was not even up to the boys shoulders! She had to bring the microphone around to the side of the podium cause she couldn't see over it! Short genes are alive and well in our home!!!

I had the opportunity to go on a field trip today with Ryan and his class. We went and saw a production of 'School House Rocks Live' It was fun! One girl in our group asked if Ryan was a mamma's boy, because I was holding his hand as we waited. I said no, and told her we had 5 kids in our family and I didn't get to hold his hand very often because there was always someone younger who needed there hand held. It made me realize how grateful I am, to be able to go on field trips with my kids and get that much needed one on one time. (Yes, I had a group of 4 kids, but only one of mine!) We need to do more Daddy/Kid or Mommy/Kid dates!!!

Ok, a funny from Grace - She walked up to me today while I was working on the computer and said "bum" and pointed to her bum. Turns out she needed her diaper changed! It was so funny, I swear she came to tell me to change her bum! I think we have a smart baby!!!

Life is Good!

good job Em!!! And I love that Ryan will still hold your hand. I took Ethan to the bus stop today and asked if he would hold my hand. He said "of course" and I told him it made me happy because someday he will feel too old for that. He said that it wouldn't be until he was on his own. Ha! I doubt that!
