Building Houses

When I was a little girl we made a gingerbread house each year at Christmas. My sister, Becky, and I would then get to eat it New Years Eve as we waited to see who would drop first, the ball at time square or us! It was one of those traditions that I loved, but somehow it got forgotten in my 'mom' world.
In 2000 we spent Christmas in Wisconsin with my oldest sister Beth. At her house we all built individual gingerbread houses with graham crackers! It was so fun and it was great to see the village that was built!
In California we had Emily's friends over to build gingerbread houses out of Rice Crispy Treats!
But like many things, when we moved it took us a while to remember the fun things we really like to do. So this year we invited Caleb's buddy Preston and his mom and Emily's friend Hailey over to help us build graham cracker houses! It was so fun!!! We did it on one of the 'Snow Days' from school so we had a full house!

When all the friends had gone home, the kids wanted to start eating their houses. So much for waiting until New Years Eve! I kept telling them "don't you want to wait and let Daddy see your neat houses?" They ate a bit then everyone BUT Caleb stopped. Caleb kept at it till it was left to just a few graham cracker crumbs.

At that point Caleb told me he wanted to build a new ginger bread house to show Daddy! To late for that, one house a year!!! But definitely a tradition we will get on the list for next year!

Yummy looking gingerbread houses. I think Caleb had the right idea. Why wait for daddy? He might try to eat the house himself. No, Caleb was right, dig in Caleb!

Happy New Year!!
